* If you are using Color QuickCam in low lighting situations, you may notice small patches of pink and blue spots in the image. This is due to under saturation in the image which may vary slightly from camera to camera. To adjust this, go to the "Camera Settings" or "Video Other" dialog box and select the Color QuickCam™ panel. Near the bottom of the panel, you will notice the Saturation slider. Slide it to the right until the spots are gone.
* Some applications install ObjectSupportLib version 1.1.4 which may cause QuickPICT to crash when launching QuickPICT after launching a scriptable PowerPC native application. To solve this problem, either launch QuickPICT before the scriptable PowerPC native application or reinstall ObjectSupportLib version 1.1.1 (which is in the System 7.5.5 Software Installation). Connectix is working to resolve this problem.
* When Apple designed the Quadra 63x TV tuner card, they assumed that there would be no other video input source besides the TV/AV card on these Macs. As a consequence, the original version of their software did not check which video source to use — it simply used the first one it found. That source often happened to be the QuickCam™ driver. If you experience this problem, you should contact Apple to get the updated version (1.3.2) of their TV tuner drivers, which corrects the problem.
* QuickPICT and QuickMovie will work with other video digitizers. However, some digitizers do not support recording into memory other than screen memory. QuickPICT will not work with these digitizers. QuickMovie will work, but the color depth of any movies recorded with these digitizers will be the same as your monitor depth. The following digitizers do not support off-screen digitization:
660/840AV - if the monitor depth is in thousands or higher
7500/8500AV - if Virtual Memory or Connectix RAM Doubler™ are active
7100/8100AV - if the monitor depth is set too high (millions)
* If you have a PCI PowerMac and QuickTime 2.0.9 you will get an error of -9400 when you launch QuickPICT or QuickMovie. QuickTime 2.0.9 shipped ONLY with the original version of System 7.5.2 on the PCI PowerMacs. QuickTime 2.0.9 was an interim release and was not available to the general public. You must use version 2.5 or greater to resolve this error. Since QuickTime 2.5 is included with our Installer, simply run the QuickCam Installer and do a custom Install for QuickTime 2.5.
* When you are actually recording a movie, your on-screen frame rate will appear to drop. Do not worry. This is because QuickTime™ and QuickMovie™ are making sure that you get the full rate saved to disk first; screen updates are secondary to captured frame rates. When you play back your saved movie, you will see the full frame rate captured by QuickMovie™.
* To get the fastest possible frame rate, make sure that your monitor depth is set to the depth of the movie being captured. (Preferably thousands.)
* If you use AppleTalk on the Printer Port, but you are not currently connected to an LocalTalk device, AppleTalk needs to be inactive in order to make the Printer port available for QuickCam to use. The same applies if your QuickCam is installed on a PowerBook with one serial port and the modem is set to "compatible." The most common situations are as follows:
1. The QuickCam is connected to the modem port. It doesn't matter whether AppleTalk is on or off.
2. The QuickCam is connected to the Printer Port and LocalTalk is set to use the Printer port as well. In this case, you must disable AppleTalk.
3. The QuickCam is connected to the Printer Port and AppleTalk is set to use Ethernet. In this case, AppleTalk can remain enabled; it does not use the Printer Port.
4. You are using the QuickCam and AppleTalk Remote Access (ARA). In this case, you must select "Remote Only" in the Network control panel (or the AppleTalk control panel, if you are using Open Transport).
* QuickPICT and QuickMovie will not capture pictures if they are in the background AND the entire video area is hidden. However, if you are using the "Auto-Capture" feature, QuickPICT will grab frames at the appropriate times. In addition, QuickMovie will not grab pictures and will stop recording when the video area is completely hidden.
* Both of the QuickCam Applications, QuickPICT 2.1.1 and QuickMovie 2.1, are fully compatible with the original Grayscale camera; however, keep in mind that the new drivers (~Color QuickCam™ and VIDEC™) are for use only with the Color Camera and will not work with the Grayscale camera.
* If you plan on using the Grayscale and Color QuickCam in tandem, here are a few tips:
- Keep each QuickCam on its own serial port. For example, plug one QuickCam into the modem port and the other QuickCam into the printer port.
